The Boston Celtics were active on the trade market on Tuesday.
The franchise executed a financially-driven deal involving a 6-foot-7 forward who spent two seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers earlier in his career.
On Wednesday, the Celtics officially announced the trade on X/Twitter.
“We have traded Georges Niang and two future second-round picks to the Utah Jazz for RJ Luis Jr,” the organization stated.
Unfortunately for Niang, the 32-year-old has nothing to show for his time with the Celtics. Boston acquired Niang from the Atlanta Hawks in July, but the former second-round pick has found himself on the move yet again.
Niang averaged 9.9 points and 3.4 rebounds with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks last season, shooting 46.1% from the field and 40.6% from three-point range.

Based on ESPN’s Bobby Marks’ recent report, the Celtics made the right decision to move on from Niang after less than two months.
“Utah is acquiring Georges Niang with part of the $26.6 million John Collins trade exception,” Marks stated Tuesday. “Niang is on an expiring $8.2 million contract. Celtics tax bill drops from $73.1 million to $30.4 million. They are now $10.2 million below the second apron and $1.7 million over the first.”
Niang, who competed with the Jazz from 2017 to 2021, is now set to complete a second stint with the lowly Western Conference franchise.
