Celtics could replace Jayson Tatum with ex-Warriors two-time NBA champion forward, per writer

With Jayson Tatum suffering an unfortunate Achilles tendon injury against the New York Knicks in the second round of the playoffs, the Boston Celtics will have no choice but to make moves this offseason.

If the Celtics want to remain competitive during Tatum’s absence, they could pursue an ex-Golden State Warriors two-time NBA champion forward, per ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel.

“The (Phoenix) Suns’ situation is much more complicated since they are a second-apron team with Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal,” Siegel wrote last Friday.

“Is there a potential path for the Celtics to create a package that involves (Kristaps) Porzingis to make a run at Durant this summer?”

Judging by Durant’s competitive nature and ring-chasing approach, it’s acceptable to conclude that he’s miserable in Phoenix.

The goal was to capture another title or two with the star-studded Suns. However, the Suns have been a mediocre club with Durant, Booker, and Beal, making it realistic for the organization to start fresh with a new-look roster.

The Celtics could benefit from adding a pure perimeter scorer in Durant to the fold.

From using his textbook release to drill pull-up three-point and mid-range jumpers over outstretched arms to being unafraid to make big plays in clutch time, the former Oklahoma City Thunder stud would be the perfect replacement for Tatum in Boston.

Despite being in his late 30s, Durant can still efficiently contribute 25+ points per contest. Conversely, Porzingis has struggled on both ends lately, possibly tempting them to include him in a blockbuster trade package for Durant.
