Reports have suggested that Boston Celtics fan favorite veteran Al Horford could depart once again this offseason. After he did so a few years ago, taking a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, things didn’t go as planned.
He was eventually moved to the Oklahoma City Thunder before returning to Boston.
Horford finishing his career in Boston won’t come as a surprise, but with Jayson Tatum’s injury, it’s possible that he may be looking for a different opportunity as he seeks to win another championship.
With the Los Angeles Lakers needing a center, and Horford still being good enough to start at the stage of his career, the two sides were linked to each other earlier in the week by Robert Irwin, adding that he could be an option for the Lakers given that the Celtics want to save money on the books.
“Al Horford had a really good season given his age,” Irwin wrote. “The Boston Celtics are going to be looking to shed salary, so he could also be an option if the Lakers want to double the number of 40+ year-olds on the roster.”
It remains uncertain how much longer Horford will continue to play in the NBA, but he proved a year ago that he still has a reliable three-point shot, shooting 36.3% from 3-point range on 5.2 attempts per game.

With his ability to defend a rim, too, he’d be an intriguing option for the Lakers to pursue as a starter or a backup.
With not a ton of money to spend and looking for ways to get creative, perhaps he could land in Los Angeles on a relatively cheap deal.
