Celtics’ 10.6 PPG former forward’s son commits to play at ACC basketball powerhouse

If you were hoping to feel just a little bit older today, how’s this:

The son of Brandon Bass just committed to play college basketball.

Yes, that Brandon Bass, the one who played in the NBA for the Hornets, Mavericks, Magic, Celtics, Lakers and Clippers.

His son, Brandon Bass Jr., will play at Florida State.

The commitment was shared by insider Joe Tipton on social media. Bass Jr. is a top-75 recruit in the 2026 class. He didn’t get all of his father’s height, measuring at 6-foot-4.

“I chose Florida State because it feels like home,” Bass Jr. told Rivals. “I already live in Florida, so being close to family and support means a lot. On top of that, the program has a rich basketball tradition and an exciting future. I wanted to be a part of something special here… The coaching staff’s experience really stood out to me. A lot of the new coaches came from the NBA, and that background means they know what it takes to play at the highest level. I trust that they can help me grow, not just as a college player but also prepare me for the next level.”

The original Bass was 6-foot-8 and a second-round pick by the Hornets in 2005 out of LSU.

He turned that selection into a 12-year NBA career.

Bass played his most games (304) with the Celtics. He also had his best statistical averages in Boston.

Across his four seasons with the Celtics, Bass put up 10.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. That was from 2011-15.

Bass is 40 now, meaning he had his son pretty early in his NBA career.

And father will get to watch son play in the ACC after one more year of high school hoops at Windermere Prep in Florida.
