Cavs get $3 million LeBron James free agent contract update if Lakers trade doesn’t happen

On the very unlikely chance that LeBron James and the Lakers go down a road that leads to a buyout, the Cleveland Cavaliers would almost certainly throw their hat in the ring.

How much money would King James want from his hometown team?

A local radio host suggested Tuesday to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst that the Cavs could offer James the veteran minimum.

Windhorst laughed, then said, “Yes, I think I can speak for the Cavs organization to say that if LeBron wanted to play at $3 million they would do that contract.”

If James somehow became a free agent after what would likely be failed trade negotiations, all of which doesn’t appear to be in the cards at the moment, every team in the league would have some interest.

The only way he’d take the vet minimum, probably, would be to see if he could get the Cavs another title.

The kid from Akron, Ohio is 40 years old now, and he got that 2016 championship already.

But somehow ending his career with one more championship in Cleveland would sure be special, even if the path to that moment seems pretty unlikely right now.
