Carlos Correa breaks his silence on playing a new position

Houston Astros infielder Carlos Correa is already adjusting nicely to his new position.

After being acquired by the Astros at the trade deadline, Correa — who has been a shortstop for his entire career — channeled his inner Alex Rodriguez, moving to third base upon his return to the Astros.

Correa was drafted 1st overall by the Astros in 2012, and by 2015 he was the team’s cornerstone shortstop. In eight seasons with the Astros, Correa was a three-time All-Star, the 2015 AL Rookie of the Year, a 2017 World Series champion, and a Gold, and Platinum Glove award recipient before landing with the Minnesota Twins in 2022.

Now in his second stint with the Astros, Correa is playing third base full-time. He spoke with The Athletic’s Chandler Rome about making the adjustment to the hot corner.

“I’m having fun out there, man. I love it,” Correa said. “It’s a new challenge and I’m embracing it. I already talked to Tony (Perezchica) about going through the plays on the plane and cues he can tell me so I can make them better.”

On the season, Correa is hitting .266 with 8 home runs, 32 RBI’s and a .708 OPS. Now back at his old stomping grounds, the team is hopeful he can get back to his All-Star form.

Correa re-joins Houston in the midst of a pennant race. The Astros — at 62-50 — have been one of the best teams in Major League Baseball this season, and hold a three-game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the AL West.
