Carlo Ancelotti picks three ‘most memorable’ games as Real Madrid manager

Real Madrid’s season comes down to Sunday’s El Clasico where they will face Barcelona, who recently crashed out of the UEFA Champions League semifinal in the most heartbreaking fashion.

So it is an opportunity for Los Blancos to pick up a crucial win against a wounded Blaugrana. They desperately need to win this game as Hansi Flick’s men are four points ahead in the La Liga standings with only four matches remaining this season.

Even a win may not be enough for Carlo Ancelotti’s men, but it would surely bring Los Blancos back in the title race.

Apart from the La Liga title race, Ancelotti is reportedly leaving the club once the La Liga season comes to an end. The team from the Spanish capital have reportedly agreed terms to bring in Xabi Alonso as the Italian’s successor.

So, before his potential last El Clasico, Ancelotti addressed the media in the pre-match media interaction. There he was asked about a lot of issues including his top three most memorable games as a Real Madrid manager.

The Italian, who has managed Los Blancos in almost 350 games across two tenures, hardly took a second to answer his top three matches. “It’s not that complicated. Lisbon, Paris, and London. It’s not that complicated for these 350. I don’t remember all 350. In some games we’ve done well, and others are better to forget because they’re not always done well,” Ancelotti said in the press conference.

Lisbon was when he won his first Champions League crown with Madrid in 2014, followed by Paris, his second crown in 2022 over Liverpool. Lastly, he won the third Champions League title with Madrid last season over Borussia Dortmund.

What did Ancelotti say about Real Madrid’s chances of winning La Liga this season?

The Italian understands that there’s a lot at stake ahead of this fixture against Barcelona, as this is Madrid’s only chance of having a shot at silverware this season.

“The team is doing well, focused on what we have to do and excited. We have a lot at stake. We’re confident that we can achieve it. Matches against Barcelona are tough, but we’re confident we can win,” he added.

Ancelotti understands that Real Madrid will have to be at their best to win against the Blaugrana, who are known for pushing their opponents into their penalty box. “We have to do things right. Barcelona is used to pushing the opponent into their own box. But no team is perfect. It’s a game with a lot at stake, and to win, you have to manage everything well, defend well, and attack well. A complete game.”

It has been a very closely fought La Liga season, but Barcelona still hold a precious four-point lead. Therefore, Blaugrana will look to dictate terms as anything but a win for Madrid doesn’t give them enough chances of getting back and securing the title.

Ancelotti feels it has been a very competitive season for La Liga. “It’s been a good league and a good season. You need continuity. Winning it or coming close explains exactly what tomorrow’s match will be like. We both have a lot at stake. Whether Barça will have a better chance than us, but if we win, it’s all up for grabs.”
