It seems that the St. Louis Cardinals’ 2025 season is starting to slip away as the regular season turns to its final month.
A trade deadline that included selling multiple veterans to bring in prospects hinted at the Cardinals’ pursuit of the future rather than staying competitive in 2025.
On Friday, St. Louis announced more unfortunate news as two more players have been placed on the injured list.
Cardinals place Alec Burleson, Yohel Pozo on injured list
Before the Cardinals were set to face their NL Central rival, the Cincinnati Reds, in a weekend series, they placed Alec Burleson on the 10-day injured list and Yohel Pozo on the seven-day concussion list, the team announced on X.
Burleson, 26, had already missed a game last week after discovering discomfort in his wrist. He returned, but the inflammation appeared once again. He exited Thursday’s game against the Pirates and will now spend time rehabbing the injury.
Pozo, 28, showed concussion-like symptoms after taking a tipped foul off the mask in Thursday’s game. After further evaluation, St. Louis decided to place him on the injured list with a concussion.

As part of Burleson and Pozo going to the injured list, the Cardinals called up catcher Jimmy Crooks and infielder Cesar Prieto; both players are set to make their major league debuts.
Crooks and Prieto are set to debut this weekend as the Cardinals try to fight their way back into postseason contention.
