Alexander Ovechkin has been an unstoppable force since debuting in the NHL during the 2005-06 season. The Russian is a future Hall of Famer and can further cement his legacy by potentially making history on April 4.

As of March 31, 2025, Ovechkin has 890 goals. He needs four to tie and five to break Wayne Gretzky’s record of 894. The Washington Capitals have two games until Friday against Chicago.

Gretzky’s record has stood for nearly three decades and was considered unbreakable. The 39-year-old Ovechkin has 37 goals in his 20th season and can reach 40 despite missing games with a broken left fibula.
