Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin had never scored a goal like this OT game-winner over Canadiens in playoffs

Alex Ovechkin has scored a lot of goals in his NHL career.

None had ever been quite like the one the Washington Capitals star put past the Montreal Canadiens in overtime on Monday night.

You see, Ovechkin had never before scored a sudden-death playoffs goal in overtime, until this one.

It capped a remarkable night for The Great 8.

He scored two goals, including the walk-off winner. He dished out an assist. He even punished Montreal with seven hits.

Ovechkin, 39, truly does it all.

And that includes delivering when it matters most.

The game winner was a bit grimier than some of his goals.

Ovechkin rushed himself into the front of the night off of a faceoff, and a beautiful pass in front allowed for an easy tap-in for the Russian superstar.

Ovechkin has one Stanley Cup in his career, but it’s safe to see he’d like more.

If the Capitals keep competing the way they did Monday night, they’ll have a chance.

It never will hurt to have the NHL world’s all-time goal scorer in fine form. The Caps have a real chance with Ovechkin leading the charger.
