Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez mocked his current biggest rival David Benavidez’s career achievements in a fresh twist in their ongoing rivalry.
Benavidez was very frustrated at his failure to secure a fight with Canelo, which he had chased for many years. The disappointment saw ‘The Mexican Monster’ move up a division to light-heavyweight instead.
In February this year, he secured an impressive unanimous decision victory against David Morrell Jr. to retain his WBC Interim and pick up the WBA Regular light-heavyweight titles.
He is a two-time WBC super-middleweight world champion, but hasn’t held a world title for well over five years now, although he is now chasing a fight with Dmitry Bivol.
It’s because of this that his enemy, Alvarez, decided to mock his current status.
Canelo commented, “I don’t know how to answer this question, but with the way he talks, he thinks he’s Superman.”
The Mexican continued to say, “He’s very disrespectful, not just with me but with everybody, and he’s accomplished nothing.
“He’s not even a champion, he’s not even in my weight class anymore.
“There’s a lot of things that doesn’t make sense, and plus, at this point in my career, I can do whatever I want.
“You guys can’t take away my from my career and my legacy for anything. If you see my resume, I fought everybody out there, all the elite fighters out there.
“I’m very good with my resume,” Canelo concluded.
The four-weight world champion from Mexico is preparing to fight IBF champion William Scull to unite all the super-middleweight world titles in an undisputed clash on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
