Canadiens trade idea lands former 40 goal scorer

As the Montreal Canadiens continue to bolster their roster in hopes of returning to the playoffs next season, another top 6 forward option has been identified as a clear need for the squad.

Cole Shelton of Heavy Sports has unveiled a trade pitch that would land the Habs a former 40 goal scorer to add to their offensive rotation and provide the team more scoring punch.

Montreal Canadiens acquire: Jared McCann

Seattle Kraken acquire: Kirby Dach, 2026 2nd round pick

How would Jared McCann help the Canadiens?

The Canadiens biggest hole in their lineup is a reliable 2nd line center. They acquired Kirby Dach from the Blackhawks with the hopes that he could be that consistent 2C of the future for them but thus far it has not worked out with Dach struggling to stay healthy with injuries.

McCann on the other hand is in the prime of his career and can help Montreal right now. Last season with Seattle, the 29 year old amassed 22 goals and 39 assists for 61 points in 82 games. This is a major upgrade over Dach’s 22 points in 57 game production last year.

Overall, the Habs acquire the better player right now while the Kraken take a chance on a 24 year old former 3rd overall pick who can still turn his career around with a change in scenery.

It will be interesting to see if the Canadiens make a move of this nature in the future or decide to roll with what they have in the hopes players like Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook figure it out.
