It really doesn’t get better than what Ivan Demidov did for the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night.
In a scoreless game in the first period, Demidov broke out up the right side of the ice.
He picked his head up, saw Alex Newhook sprinting toward the left side of the goal, flung a pinpoint pass and gave Newhook an easy tap-in for 1-0 Montreal.
The Seattle Kraken had no chance to stop it.
There’s a case it’s the best pass of the young NHL season so far.

It’s a fantastic early-season moment for the 19-year old Russian.
Demidov played in just two games last season after being the No. 5 overall pick in the 2024 draft.
This season, he had one assist through three games entering Tuesday night. Make that two now.
It certainly won’t be the last point, not with a guy who skates and passes this well.
Demidov is a reason to believe the Canadiens can be even better this season than they were last season.
His teammates will start to get used to his vision, too, which can only help convert opportunities into more goals.
There are few things better than a sweet pass like this.
