Canadiens expected to move former 361 win goalie’s contract soon

The Montreal Canadiens are a team that is looking to add to their roster and bolster their contending chances this upcoming season. The problem the team faces is that they currently do not have the cap space to pull off any major moves as they are well below $5 million according to Puck Pedia.

That harsh reality is expected to change soon as via Marco D’Amico, the Canadiens are expected to move former legendary netminder Carey Price’s contract in the coming days. This would free up the necessary space the Habs need to pull off some big moves, as the team eyes another top 6 piece to add to their forward core.

Price’s contract carries a massive $10.5 million hit that comes off the books after this season. Montreal’s next order of business is to find a team with the cap situation that would have them willing to take on such a contract off the Canadiens hands.

Which teams could Price’s deal be moved to?

Logically, the teams that have the most cap room to work with will be the most likely to pull off a deal with Montreal for Price’s contract. One team that has been heavily connected to a potential deal is the San Jose Sharks. A trade of this nature would allow the Sharks to move some of their own bad contracts while staying above the cap floor.

Another team that has been rumored as a potential suitor for Montreal is the Pittsburgh Penguins. The reason being for them is it would allow for them to get going on moving more veteran pieces as they eye a likely rebuild.

We’ll see what happens with Carey Price’s contract soon and if one of these teams or a surprise player is involved in the deal.
