C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans players emotional after Tank Dell injury

An incredible catch turned into an emotional, scary moment for Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell on Saturday.

With Houston trailing 17-10 in the third quarter of its game against the Kansas City Chiefs, quarterback C.J. Stroud lobbed a bomb to Dell, who masterfully caught the pass for a touchdown.

But as Dell dove into the endzone with the ball, teammate Jared Wayne inadvertently landed on Dell’s leg, which turned awkwardly.

Dell lied on the turf for several minutes before eventually being carted off the field.

As Dell received medical attention, Texans players struggled to keep their composure. Stroud was seen crying for Dell, who has become one of the second-year quarterback’s main targets. Multiple other Texans were shown on the NBC broadcast praying on one knee as trainers looked at Dell and the severity of his injury.

An official designation on Dell’s injury wasn’t immediately given, but it was serious enough to send him out of Arrowhead Stadium on a stretcher.

Dell’s touchdown would have tied the game, but Houston kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn missed the extra point, allowing the Chiefs to hold a 17-16 lead.
