Former Chicago Bulls guard and now Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has played alongside some of the greatest players to ever step on the hardwood.
And in recent years, he has also coached some of the greatest players to ever step on the hardwood.
Between coaching and playing, he has won a total of nine NBA championships, so between that and the players he has been around, it’s safe to say the Arizona alum knows a thing or two about greatness.
So when he began making comparisons between his star player from Golden State Stephen Curry and his former teammate Michael Jordan, whom many consider to be the greatest of all time, it seemed to all make sense coming from the Warriors coach.
“It’s the most amazing mindset that I’ve ever seen, Michael had a similar mindset,” Kerr said on the Glue Guys podcast. “But Michael’s mindset appeared to be more of a desire to kill an opponent, to just stick the knife in and twist it. Steph is more about the joy of the act of shooting the ball. You know, and that’s what makes it so beautiful to watch Steph.”
Kerr would also praise the self confidence that the two legends show in their play, calling his former teammate more calculating, and his current star relying more on getting into a rhythm, almost more emotional compared to MJ’s physical approach to the game.
“They’re similar in their self-confidence. I think Michael’s much more calculating. I don’t think Steph’s so calculating, I just think his ability to get into the rhythm, into the flow, into the zone, psychologically, emotionally, however you want to say it, was so unique. With Michael, it’s more of an announced dominance. It’s like, ‘I’m here, and I’m going to own the space and the arena.’ “
However the two look at the game of basketball, it’s clearly worked out for both of them, as they both have been considered two of the most influential players of all time.
