The Buffalo Bills can breathe a sigh of relief after getting a positive injury update on rookie first-round pick Max Hairston.
“First-round CB Maxwell Hairston, who left practice with a knee injury yesterday, had tests that revealed his ACL to be intact,” Ian Rapoport reports. “It’s an LCL sprain and Hairston could be back in as few as three weeks.”
While this is terrific news that Hairston will be ready to go by Week 1, it should lead to the Bills signing another veteran cornerback as depth in case of an injury. The Bills brought back Tre’Davious White and Dane Jackson this offseason, but they should bring back one more former Bill – Rasul Douglas.
Douglas remains a free agent after two seasons with the Bills. He was acquired ahead of the 2023 trade deadline and slotted in as the starter opposite Christian Benford after the Bills moved on from White ahead of 2024. Douglas didn’t have as good of a 2024 season as he did in 2023, posting a PFF coverage grade of 58.9, but he would slot in great as a reliable depth piece rather than a No. 1 starter.
Other teams have a bigger need at cornerback, such as the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals. We’ll see if those teams call Douglas and if he signs with a contender or if he does, indeed, wind up back in Buffalo.
