Bucs look to rebound at cornerback after injury-plagued 2024

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will enter 2025 training camp with high hopes and lingering questions in the secondary, particularly at cornerback, where injuries took a heavy toll last season.

Veterans Jamel Dean and Zyon McCollum top the depth chart, but both missed significant time in 2024.

With Dean and McCollum back healthy and added competition through the draft, Tampa Bay hopes to turn a 2024 weakness into a strength.

Bryce Hall, a key rotational piece, is also back in action after missing nearly all of 2024 with a dislocated ankle suffered in Week 1. His return injects experience and depth as he competes for meaningful reps this summer.

To further strengthen the unit, Tampa Bay selected two cornerbacks in the 2025 NFL draft: Benjamin Morrison in the second round and Jacob Parrish in the third.

On Friday, Bucs writer Brianna Dix shared that the team is reportedly monitoring Morrison as he is recovering from a hip injury.

“Morrison is recovering from a hip injury but is expected to be a full-go for training camp without restrictions,” Dix wrote. “This will provide the first in-depth opportunity for the Bucs’ brass to evaluate the technically sound cover man. Morrison’s injury history caused him to fall in the draft but he plays with fluid and balanced movements in coverage.”

The returning talent and promising rookies sets up a highly competitive cornerback room, with all eyes on who will emerge as starters and key contributors. How the cornerback rotation shapes up in training camp could be key to Tampa Bay’s defensive success in 2025.
