Bucks’ star changes jersey number to take advantage of Damian Lillard’s departure

The Milwaukee Bucks surprised the NBA by cutting ties with Damian Lillard earlier in the offseason.

It didn’t take long for one of Lillard’s former teammates to seize his opportunity.

With Lillard no longer on the roster, his uniform No. 0 was open for the taking. Kyle Kuzma has chosen to wear that digit for the upcoming season.

Kuzma has been No. 0 before in his career, when he was with the Lakers, so it’s not a crazy switch.

This past season, Kuzma wore No. 18 for the Bucks.

The No. 0 for Kuzma will invite some jokes.

On April 19, Kuzma played 22 minutes of a playoff game and had no stats.

That’s right, in his 22 minutes, he had 0 points, 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals and 0 blocks. He was 0-for-5 from the floor (0-2 3FG) and missed both his foul shots.

Sounds like a guy who should be wearing No. 0 for sure.

The Bucks traded for Kuzma midway through last season, sending Khris Middleton to the Wizards to pick up the talented scorer.

Milwaukee will certainly need Kuzma to be more than a zero this season.

With Lillard gone, it’s possible the shots will be there once again for Kuzma to get near 20 points per game.

Despite the suggestion of the number on his back, Kuzma certainly won’t be shy about going for the big totals.
