Bucks put faith in front office to steer potential rebuild with Giannis, Lillard futures uncertain

The Milwaukee Bucks are extending general manager Jon Horst to a multi-year deal, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.

An interesting move, to say the least. The Bucks have made the postseason every season since Horst arrived, winning the championship in 2021. However, the organization hasn’t been anywhere near since, and is on the verge of being eliminated in the first round for the third consecutive season. The playoff disappointment could leave the door open for Bucks stars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard to depart this offseason.

Antetokounmpo is playing at a superstar level but receiving little help from his supporting cast. The Lillard addition was supposed to elevate Milwaukee back to title contention, but has been hindered by injuries and drama. Horst also hasn’t really hit in the Draft recently, adding more suspicion for the Bucks’ direction in a potential rebuild.

That said, Milwaukee must keep the main thing against Indiana for Game 3. They host at Fiserv Forum Friday night.

“I feel like the mindset and approach that I have, being around in the locker, being around in the plane, being around in practice, watching film together, talking as a team, we know the deal,” Antetokounmpo said in the postgame interview. “Hopefully, it can rub off on everybody, and we can go out there and compete. My mindset is Game 3 right now, I know the [expletive] deal, man. I know what I gotta do.”
