Although retaining Giannis Antetokounmpo remains high on the list of prioritird a for the Milwaukee Bucks, the franchise may be on the verge of losing a valuable contributor during the 2025 NBA Offseason.
Veteran swingman Gary Trent Jr. is set to hit the 2025 NBA offseason as a free agent, with numerous suitors looking to acquire his services.
In a recent Free agency breakdown, ESPN writer Kevin Pelton discussed Trent’s season and his market value across the league.
“Trent was dreadful as the Bucks started slowly and lost his starting job, but he rebounded to shoot 42% on 3s while attempting 8.2 per 36 minutes. Trent then went for 30-plus points twice in the first round against the Pacers, making a combined 17 treys in those games,” Pelton wrote.
He added, “At 26, Trent is squarely in his prime, and some team should find the happy medium between the $18.6 million he made with the Toronto Raptors and this past season’s minimum deal.”
TrentJr. , who gained a reputation as a reliable sharpshooter throughout his career, is coming off a season that began with disappointment and ended on a high note.
He averaged 11.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists on 41% from behind the arc. He eventually found his rhythm throughout the season and came on strong during the postseason, with two 30-point performances in the Bucks’ first matchup against the Indiana Pacers.
He signed a 1-year, two-million-dollar prove-it deal with the Bucks after a disappointing stint with the Raptors. He made the most of the opportunity and should enter this offseason with renewed value. Teams around the league may look to acquire him thanks to his ability to space the floor.
As Pelton highlighted, he is still very young and could be a valuable asset for teams across the league. Thanks to this lethal shooting, for the Bucks, retaining him could be crucial as his shooting was very valuable on this Bucks roster.
