The Milwaukee Bucks have been doing their best to keep former Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo happy this offseason.
They stretched the contract of Damian Lillard, sacrificing current and future cap space to sign former Indiana Pacers big man Myles Turner to a lengthy deal. But other than that, they didn’t make any needle-moving transactions to designate themselves as a contender in a weakened Eastern Conference.
It feels like the Bucks should get ahead of the coming storm and trade Antetokounmpo now before he demands a trade in the near future.
Bucks Trade Idea Ships Giannis Antetokounmpo to Raptors for Haul of Youngsters
In a recent trade proposal from Athlon Sports’ Nathaniel Holloway, the Bucks would send their two-time league MVP to the Toronto Raptors for a haul of young players and picks.
Milwaukee Bucks receive: Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett, Gradey Dick, and multiple first-round picks
Toronto Raptors receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo
While the Bucks wouldn’t be getting a bona fide star in return for their homegrown franchise legend, the trio of young players and premium picks would be enough to kick-start an exciting rebuild in Milwaukee.
“For Barrett, he would give the Bucks a solid scorer, defender and rebounder who has shown flashes of being a potential star if given the right opportunity,” wrote Holloway.
“Quickley would give Milwaukee a much-needed point guard who is a solid scorer and playmaker while Dick would upgrade their 3-point shooting while also giving them another young player to build around.”
For the Bucks, parting ways with the Greek Freak is not going to be easy. But considering the current direction of the team and the lack of draft capital they have thanks to previous trades, trying to put a contender together, this may be the only option to dig themselves out of the hole they’re in.
