Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield had high praise for rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, calling the former Ohio State standout an “absolute stud” in a recent interview on the New Heights podcast.
And for good reason.
Egbuka might be one of the most important additions to this year’s offense.
Last season, the Bucs made a strong playoff push but were dealt a major blow when both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin went down with injuries in a loss to the Ravens. Their absence exposed just how thin the receiver room was behind them.
Enter Egbuka.
He’s not just a weapon, but a critical insurance policy. He brings reliable hands, elite route running, elite run blocking skills for a rookie, and the kind of polish that should make him NFL-ready from day one.
Although Godwin is expected to be at camp but won’t participate in practice activities, that only makes Mayfield’s confidence in Egbuka more important, as he also said later that they can just plug and play him anywhere.
With a healthy receiving corps and a rising talent like Egbuka already winning over the locker room, this division is Tampa Bay’s to lose.
