Bryson DeChambeau rope incident video: Revisiting the 2022 LIV Golf clothesline to the face

Bryson DeChambeau has faced plenty of challenges on the links. But his greatest one on a golf course might have come from a gallery rope.

In 2022 at LIV Golf’s Chicago Invitational, DeChambeau went viral for getting clotheslined as he tried to make his way to the green. He was initially shaken up by the incident, but he recovered enough to make his birdie putt and continue his round.

The broadcasters for the tournament had a good laugh, with analyst David Feherty jokingly exclaiming, “off with his head!” DeChambeau hopes he can keep his head in Sunday’s final round at Augusta National, where he’ll be paired with Rory McIlroy as the golfers both try to win their first green jacket.

Here’s a look back at DeChambeau’s infamous rope incident at Rich Harvest Farms.

Bryson DeChambeau rope incident

DeChambeau was headed to the green after hitting a terrific approach shot on the par-4 14th hole when he ran into some trouble: the rope holding fans back from the course was blocking his path.

DeChambeau tried to duck under the rope, but he appeared to misjudge the height of it. The rope went smack across his face, and he fell to the ground upon impact.

After staying down on a knee for a moment, DeChambeau was able to regain his wits about him and complete his round. He didn’t have his best tournament result, ultimately finishing in a tie for tenth, seven shots behind winner Cam Smith.

When did Bryson DeChambeau walk into a rope?

DeChambeau walked into a rope in 2022 at the LIV Golf Chicago Invitational at Rich Harvest Farms. It was shortly after he joined the newly forming LIV tour in June 2022.

LIV tour players are allowed to compete at major championships, and when one of them finds success, it garners attention. DeChambeau sits in second place heading into the final round at the 2025 Masters, just two shots behind McIlroy. He’ll definitely look to avoid the gallery ropes as he moves around the course.

Bryson DeChambeau LIV contract

DeChambeau signed a contract with LIV in 2022 that is reportedly worth more than $125 million.

The contract runs through the end of 2026. DeChambeau has said in the past that he likes the direction LIV Golf is going in and that he hopes the league can bring more fans into golf worldwide.
