The Phillies are holding their breath after an injury to their star player.
Bryce Harper exited Tuesday night’s game against the Braves after being hit on the right elbow. The pitch thrown by Spencer Strider drilled the same elbow that Harper had Tommy John surgery on two years ago.
Harper appeared to be in a lot of pain as he walked to the locker room, but Philadelphia announced after the game that X-rays were negative and that his injury is only a right elbow contusion.

Bryce Harper elbow surgery
This injury was initially concerning for Harper because he was hit on the same elbow he had Tommy John surgery on in November 2022, after helping the Phillies get to the World Series.
Harper missed the first month of the 2023 season before returning to the Phillies in May, just 160 days after his surgery. It was the fastest ever return for an MLB player who underwent Tommy John surgery. Harper transitioned to first base from right field upon his return.

Harper is an important bat that the Phillies cannot afford to lose for an extended period of time. They appear optimistic that his recovery from Tuesday’s injury will be quick. Here’s a look at some of Harper’s stats in 2024-25.
