Bruno Fernandes sends defiant message amid criticism from Man Utd icons

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has hit back at former club legends who have questioned his leadership style.

The Portugal star, who has carried much of the team’s attacking load in recent years, insists he won’t judge anyone until he truly knows them.

United’s troubles last season have kept Fernandes under constant scrutiny. Erik ten Hag’s exit and Ruben Amorim’s 15th-place finish left fans and pundits frustrated.

Even club icons like Roy Keane and Gary Neville raised doubts about Fernandes’ behavior on and off the field, despite his impressive record of goals and assists.

Keane, after United’s 4-1 loss to Newcastle last April, said: “To be fair to Bruno Fernandes he fronts up, but to me it’s just soundbites now.”

He went on to call some players “bluffers” while questioning Fernandes’ demands on teammates.

What Bruno Fernandes said?

Asked about these remarks, Fernandes gave a simple response (via BBC): “Nothing. People have an opinion about me and I can’t change that… But what I don’t do is I don’t judge people until I know them.”

The midfielder stressed that different opinions are part of football and life. He added: “They can have an opinion about me and that’s fine. We all have different opinions, that’s why life is so good and so different. Because if we all think the same way it will be so boring.”

This defiant note shows Fernandes is not backing down from criticism, even when it comes from United greats.

What next for the club captain?

Fernandes has now scored 99 goals for United, a figure that underlines his importance since joining five years ago.

He remains the first name on the team sheet, but the debate around his leadership continues. Fans may question the tone of his interviews, but few can deny that he keeps delivering on the pitch.

For United, who are desperate to bounce back from last season’s chaos, Fernandes’ ability to shut out the noise might prove just as vital as his goals.
