Shedeur Sanders still has a long way to go.
The Cleveland Browns’ fifth-round rookie quarterback hasn’t seen any first-team reps this summer at training camp. He’s still competing with three other QBs: Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel.
But at the same time, the former Colorado star is performing well at camp, and that’s the best he can do.
ESPN Cleveland has tracked training camp passing stats through Saturday, which are a fun thing to look at even if they don’t mean a ton.
But for whatever they mean, Sanders has a pretty commanding statistical lead.

Here are the full stats, via ESPN Cleveland:
- Shedeur Sanders: 49-70, 6 TDs, 0 INTs
- Joe Flacco: 54-92, 3 TDs, 0 INTs
- Dillon Gabriel: 62-113, 4 TDs, 2 INTs
- Kenny Pickett: 23-34, 3 TDs, 1 INT
Pickett has been absent the past week or so with a hamstring injury, limiting his overall numbers.
But for Sanders to lead in touchdown passes with less throws than Flacco or Gabriel has to mean at least a little something.
There have also been no interceptions for Sanders, certainly a positive.

It was never going to be easy once Sanders fell to pick No. 144 in the fifth round. He has to prove himself at every step along the way.
Shedeur doesn’t seem to mind that task, though. He just wants a chance, and he’s being given one.
It may not be with the first-stringers, but if Sanders keeps playing well enough, that should come.
Right now, Sanders is controlling the controllables, and he’s doing a good job of it.
