Browns predicted to give up on Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel for 43-TD star quarterback

All eyes are on the Cleveland Browns’ quarterbacks room this offseason, as the team doesn’t have a sure starter and is four deep at the position after drafting Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel.

Along with the two rookies, Cleveland also sports veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. And, depending on his ability to make it back in time for 2025, Deshaun Watson could also be in the mix at some point.

While the Browns have given themselves plenty of options at the most important spot in the NFL, none of those players are guaranteed to be a long-term solution, which could lead to Cleveland being back in the quarterback market in 2026.

If that’s the case, Pro Football and Sports Network’s Jacob Infante predicts the team will spring for Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik with the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s draft.

“Cade Klubnik made huge strides in 2024. He’s an accurate passer with good poise in the pocket and underrated mobility. His consistency, rhythm, and decision-making all give him a high floor and project him as a potential long-term starter in the league,” Infante wrote.

“Even though the Cleveland Browns drafted Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders in 2025, neither came with the kind of draft capital that signals long-term commitment. If Cleveland finishes with the league’s worst record, they’d be smart to take a swing at a true franchise QB,” Infante added.

Infante makes a fair point about the draft capital spent on Gabriel and Sanders.

Seeing as how they were third- and fifth-round picks, respectively, it’s not crazy to think the Browns could give up on either one sooner rather than later, especially if they’re in a spot to take a quarterback they love in 2026.

Klubnik is on track to be one of the top signal-callers in next year’s draft after he posted a strong 2024 campaign.

Klubnik totaled career-highs in passing yards (3,639), rushing yards (463) and total touchdowns (43) last season. Now, he’ll look to build on that in 2025.

If he’s able to do that, Klubnik will cement himself as a first-round pick, and quite possibly the best quarterback on the board overall.

The Clemson star definitely needs to fine tune some things, but he already checks some important boxes, with Klubnik offering good arm talent and mobility.
