Browns offensive line faces major test in joint practices with Eagles defensive front

As the Cleveland Browns head into Week 2 of the preseason schedule, they will face their toughest task yet as they have joint practices and a preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fresh off their 2024 Super Bowl, the Eagles will be a great test all around for the Browns, but what will be most exciting to watch is how the Browns’ offensive line handles the Eagles’ defensive line.

Remember, a year ago, the Browns gave up 66 sacks, which was the second most in the league, and quarterbacks were constantly under pressure.  There were a ton of injuries for the unit in 2024, which caused a lot of the issues, but it’s a unit that was also put in a lot of bad situations trying to run an offense that fit one of eleven player skillsets.

Expect the Browns’ interior line of Joel Bionio, Ethan Pocic, and Wyatt Teller to struggle in drills vs. the tackles of the Eagles, Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter, who are both massive humans with great strength.  But look for this team to potentially have some success in 11-on-11 when they have a chance to use their athleticism and play-action to keep these guys from pinning their ears back.

It will also be a good week to see Jack Conklin and Dawand Jones get work against Nolan Smith and Moro Ojomo for the Eagles, who both proved to be strong pass rushers in the 2024 season.  Conklin is having his first healthy offseason in a few years, and Jones has completely transformed his body, which should be massive in their preparedness for the season.

Last week, we saw Shedeur Sanders and the second team offense in the preseason, and with two days of joint practices, it will likely be the same story again.  Kevin Stefanski hasn’t confirmed, but his strategy last week was to get the starters’ reps in joint practices, and then allow the second team a ton of time on the field for the actual game on Saturday.
