Browns confirm Nick Chubb’s future in Cleveland with latest RB contract move

Many Browns fans have held out hope that Nick Chubb may still return to Cleveland.

Maybe he’s not a star running back anymore, but he’s grown into a favorite on the shores of Lake Erie, and it’s always hard to let guys like that go.

But the Browns’ three recent moves at running back have suggested Chubb will be moving on.

The first two came in the NFL Draft, when the Browns drafted both Ohio State’s Quinshon Judkins and Tennessee’s Dylan Sampson.

The most recent came Friday, when returning RB Jerome Ford restructured his contract to take a paycut.

The restructure details come courtesy of Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot:

“He took the cut on Friday, reducing his salary by about half, from $3.486 million to a guaranteed $1.75 million, a league source told cleveland.com. If he had refused the paycut or if the Browns traded Ford, Chubb may have been re-signed.”

Cabot writes that Chubb is likely moving on after this move.

He’s coming off a season with just 3.3 yards per carry. And in 2023, he suffered a serious knee injury in Week 2 and never came back.

Chubb scored 51 rushing TDs in his Cleveland career.

At 29 years old, he’ll likely hope to continue his NFL career somewhere. But for the first time, it may be with a team other than the Browns.
