The Browns’ quarterback room has been one of the most talked-about things in the NFL this offseason.
Recently, the team announced that Joe Flacco would be the starting quarterback for the team to begin the season in Week 1.
The other decisions that the team would make outside of Flacco have been on the minds of fans, and they were able to get clarity on the situation on Tuesday.
Who is Cleveland’s QB2 in the 2025-26 season?
The Browns’ crowded quarterback room became a little bit less crowded after the team traded away Kenny Pickett to the Raiders, giving Las Vegas quarterback depth behind Geno Smith.
That left Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel as the players next up on the depth chart for the quarterback position.
There’s no guarantee that the Browns will stick with Flacco for most of the season, despite recent success at his age in the NFL.

If anything were to happen to Flacco or if Cleveland decided to roll with a new player, Browns’ head coach Kevin Stefanski announced, “Dillon Gabriel is the backup quarterback” (via Mary Kay Cabot).
This puts to bed the rumors of what would happen in that situation, meaning we might not see a lot of rookie Shedeur Sanders this season as it stands.
That can always change as unexpected circumstances can occur, but for now, the 2025 3rd round pick, Dillon Gabriel, will be the team’s next in line for quarterback.
The Browns’ first game of the 2025-26 NFL season will be against the Bengals on Sunday, Sept. 7.
