The Denver Broncos have a chance to have the best secondary in the NFL in 2025. After adding Jim Thorpe Award winner Jahdae Barron with their first-round pick and pairing him with reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Pat Surtain II, a new version of the ‘No Fly Zone’ may be coming.
This summer, the coaching staff is going to look to complete that group with the best level of depth that it can, meaning there will be a competition for several positions.
Following the draft, the Broncos signed two cornerbacks as undrafted free agents. One of those, Joshua Pickett, has already been profiled in the Undrafted Rookie Spotlight and now, it’s time to take a closer look at Jaden Robinson.
Name: Jaden Robinson
Height: 6-foot-0
Weight: 193
Position: Cornerback
School: Oregon State
Robinson began his college career at Oregon State in 2018. He appeared in only 10 games there in his first three seasons before becoming a starter in 2022 (he missed the entire 2021 season). In total, he had 89 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 11 pass deflections and one fumble recovery in his career for the Beavers. What stands out most is that he never had an interception.
He majored in sociology while at the school and joins a Broncos team where he will be looking to earn a spot as a reserve defensive back, but that’s not going to be easy.
Chances to make 53-man roster (1-10 scale): 1
The Broncos are stout at the top with Surtain, Barron and Riley Moss. Kris Abrams-Draine is a promising second-year prospect who will make the team. However, a door could open if the team decides to move Ja’Quan McMillian, as some have suggested.
The addition of UFL player Mario Goodrich makes things even harder for a guy like Robinson, who will be in the mix with guys like Damarri Mathis, Quinton Newsome, Reese Taylor, and Pickett.
There is room for one of the players at the bottom of the current depth chart to make a move and make this team, but it would be surprising if that was Robinson, given his college pedigree. His best bet would be to become a stud on special teams, but even that would likely only buy him a spot on the practice squad.
The odds will be stacked against Robinson once training camp opens, but he’s on the roster and he will get his chance to shine and show what he can do.
