Despite seemingly having a good situation at wide receiver, it appears the Denver Broncos aren’t totally content with the position.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, rumor has it that the Broncos are looking for a wide receiver ahead of the trade deadline, and more specifically, a deep threat.
Dan Graziano goes on to speculate that perhaps head coach Sean Payton could strike a deal with his former team, the New Orleans Saints, for wide receiver Rashid Shaheed.
“While I’m not convinced the Broncos will make a bold move, ideally Denver would like more of a classic, field-stretching receiving option to offset the skill sets already in place while also adding veteran experience,” Fowler wrote.
“Maybe Sean Payton can swing a deal with his former team and add Shaheed?” Graziano pondered.
Previously, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Shaheed could be available for the right price, which sources say might be a third-round pick.
Considering his past production, there is zero chance the Saints get that much back, but we would expect that demand to drop the closer we get to the deadline, assuming New Orleans is actually open to trading him.
It makes total sense for New Orleans to trade Shaheed.
After all, the Saints are terrible and desperately need picks to get a rebuild going. Adding to that, Shaheed is in a contract year and could walk in free agency for nothing in 2026.
Shaheed would check multiple boxes for Denver. He adds a more experienced option for quarterback Bo Nix, which the team is currently lacking outside of Courtland Sutton, and Shaheed is a deep-threat specialist.
Another player to keep an eye on is New York Giants wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, who Fowler reports is looking for a fresh start.
“Former third-round receiver Jalin Hyatt would like a fresh start elsewhere, just as (Evan) Neal does,” Fowler writes.
Hyatt is a far less attractive option than Shaheed given his lack of production since his rookie campaign, but he would offer a potentially potent deep threat if the Broncos can figure out a way to get more out of him.
Shaheed would represent the high end of the field-stretching options available at the trade deadline and is the most ideal move the Broncos could make when it comes to their reported desire.
If all else fails, it wouldn’t hurt to take a flyer on Hyatt, who should only cost a seventh-round pick
