Broncos successful season may lead to loss of important coach

The Denver Broncos have finally emerged from the NFL basement and qualified for the postseason, their first trip to the playoffs since 2015. But with that success comes a different set of circumstances.

While the Broncos are preparing for their Wild Card round game against the Buffalo Bills, other teams around the league are weighing their options, some after firing their coaches. One of those teams could bring in a coach currently working for the Broncos.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the New York Jets have put in a request to interview Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.

The Broncos brought Joseph back when Sean Payton was hired as the team’s head coach ahead of the 2023 season. The move was met with plenty of negativity at the time as Joseph had a failed run as the Broncos’ head coach from 2017-18. However, Joseph has won the favor of the fans back by turning the Broncos’ defense into one of the best in the league this season.

The Broncos led the league in sacks and set a franchise record with 63 on the season. Losing Joseph would be a big blow to the Broncos, but the best teams are the ones that often get picked over.

New York Jets to interview Vance Joseph

The Jets have had an opening since firing Robert Saleh during the season. Jeff Ulbrich served as the team’s interim head coach but it is expected that the Jets will bring in a new name. Joseph is on a long list of candidates.

It remains to be seen if an offer will be extended to Joseph, but there are other teams with openings so Joseph may end up having more than one interview.
