Broncos likely to have chance to bring legendary player back to Denver

The Denver Broncos could soon have a chance to bring back one of the best players in team history, but would it be a good move for the team?

Former Broncos linebacker Von Miller, the franchise’s all-time leader in sacks, has been projected as a salary cap casualty of the Buffalo Bills this offseason. Here is what Matt Okada of NFL.com had to say on the subject:

After earning a Pro Bowl nod in each of his first eight full seasons in the NFL, Von

“Miller is very clearly in the sunset years of his career. He has had just 14 sacks in three seasons with the Bills, played roughly one-third of the defensive snaps in 2024 and turns 36 years old on March 26. While he can be a useful situational pass rusher, that kind of usage does not justify his $23.8 million cap number next season (10th-highest among NFL edge rushers). Buffalo would eat $15.4 million in dead money by cutting him pre-June 1, so designating him as a post-June 1 cut might be more ideal — with just $6.4 million in dead money and saving $17.4 million in that case. Either way, the Bills are currently projected to be $17 million over the cap (third-worst in the league), so they need to pinch pennies wherever possible, and Miller seems likely to be among the casualties.”

Miller has spent the past three seasons with the Bills after winning a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams, where the Broncos traded him in 2021. The soon-to-be 36-year-old seems ready to continue his career, and many fans inside Broncos Country would love to see him back in the Mile High City.

But would that be wise?

If the Broncos were to have Miller sign a one-day contract so he could retire as a Bronco, that would make all the sense in the world. But there will be some who would argue that Miller could still have something to offer, particularly as a mentor for players like Nik Bonitto, Jonathon Cooper and Jonah Elliss and should be given a one-year deal as a result.

Should the Bills cut Miller as expected, this is a conversation that will immediately come up. The Broncos would have to weigh the pros and cons of having Miller back, but his best days are far behind him.
