Broncos ideal trade lands ‘field-stretching’ receiver for Bo Nix

The Denver Broncos are expected to be active at the upcoming NFL trade deadline. Sitting at 6-2 atop the AFC West, ahead of both the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs, the Broncos are in the driver’s seat for the division title.

Their defense is once again an elite unit. But, while Bo Nix has taken a step forward as a quarterback, the Denver offense is still in need of some help.

According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, there is one ideal trade target for the Broncos at the deadline. While Fowler doesn’t name a specific player, he identifies a field-stretching receiver as the Broncos’ ideal trade target.

The Broncos have an ideal trade target ahead of the deadline

“While I’m not convinced the Broncos will make a bold move,” Fowler reports, “ideally Denver would like more of a classic, field-stretching receiving option to offset the skill sets already in place while also adding veteran experience.”

Denver is eyeing a field-stretching wide receiver, and there’s one name that comes to mind: New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed.

He’s in the final year of his deal and is a likely trade candidate. While the Broncos might have to part with a third-round pick to land Shaheed, he’d be the perfect player for Denver to acquire and fill out their “field-stretching” trade target.

Courtland Sutton, Troy Franklin, Marvin Mims, and Pat Bryant make up a solid room already, but the team lacks a clear deep-threat option that can open things up for the rest of the receivers.

Shaheed, if the Broncos could make such a deal work, would be an ideal fit for Denver. It won’t be cheap, and while Fowler doesn’t see a huge deal coming for Denver, a Shaheed trade could be what gets the Broncos over the edge and maintains their AFC West lead.

Nix has played great this season, and adding a player to take the top off a defense is exactly what this offense is missing. Shaheed would be an ideal fit for Denver and is a name worth monitoring as the deadline approaches.
