Brian Windhorst makes Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo announcement

If there’s one thing any fan can guarantee during the offseason, it’s ESPN making rumors up about Giannis Antetokounmpo being traded.

They’ve done it for the past seven-plus years, but until it happens, it remains uncertain what the Milwaukee Bucks believe is the best plan of action.

On the surface, there isn’t much of a reason to trade Antetokounmpo, barring him asking for a trade. If the Bucks were to move him, they’d at least get back a package that could help set up their future, with limited picks and tradable contracts currently.

However, the Bucks are now under the second apron. While they don’t exactly have the cap space to make a significant move in the offseason, they should be able to retool around Antetokounmpo and put together a better team.

Despite that, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said that the elephant in the room around the league right now is whether Antetokounmpo will leave in the offseason.

“Giannis has been just awesome this season,” said Brian Windhorst. “He’s clearly understood that they’re challenged. And he has cut the BS out of his game and cut the fat out of his game and tried doing everything he can to carry this team. And they’re just not good enough. And what is he supposed to do? This is the elephant in the room in the league right now. This team is losing tens of millions of dollars.”

Windhorst has said that Antetokounmpo is going to leave plenty of times in the past. Given the status of the NBA, he’ll likely be right at some point. Whether it’s this offseason, the next one, or in 10 years, players typically leave, even the most loyal ones.

However, Antetokounmpo has never said he wants to leave the Bucks, and at this point, these are just fantasy rumors.
