Brian Schottenheimer walked into Tuesday’s press conference already in on the joke.
The Dallas Cowboys head coach had heard Colin Cowherd’s rant about his backward visor the day before, and he wasted no time flipping the moment into a playful rebuttal.
“Oop, sorry Colin, let me turn my hat around,” Schottenheimer said, smirking as he spun the visor to the front before he even answered a question. A few moments later, he flipped it right back, returning to the backward look.
Cowherd torched Schottenheimer’s look on Monday while calling the Cowboys “a two‑win team.” He also said the Dallas coaches look was a bad image for a “$12 billion corporation” like Bank of America, a sponsorship for the Cowboys.
Cowherd did respond to Schottenheimer’s comments with a quip of his own.
“Appreciate the professionalism,” Cowherd said on X.
The lighthearted exchange comes after Cowherd’s latest critique of the Cowboys, in which he suggested Schottenheimer’s appearance was symbolic of a franchise he expects to flop — and even predicted the coordinator would be “one‑and‑done” in Dallas.

“When you sit in front of a podium, you’re representing the Cowboys,” Cowherd said. “You’re representing Bank of America. You’re representing a $12 billion corporation. I think you gotta do better as a head coach than a visor backwards.”
Schottenheimer didn’t need to say much else. His quick‑witted move turned Cowherd’s viral criticism into a laugh, giving the Cowboys some rare comic relief amid the ongoing Micah Parsons contract drama. Whether the visor stays forward or backward moving forward, the coordinator showed he can take the heat — and flip it back with a grin.
