Brewers’ Isaac Collins is 2nd rookie in MLB history with this trifecta of feats

Isaac Collins punctuated one of the best rookie stretches in MLB history with a mighty blast.

The Milwaukee Brewers completed an epic comeback against the New York Mets on Sunday. They capped it off with Collins’ walk-off home run against Edwin Diaz.

It continued a scorching hot run for the Brewers, and it also made history for Collins.

He’s now put up a trifecta of stats in the last 20 games only matched by one rookie in MLB history, per OptaStats.

Those feats: 10 multi-hit games, 16 team wins and a walk-off home run.

And the player who has also done it? Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig in 2013.

Clearly, the 16 team wins stat isn’t all Collins’ doing, but he’s also obviously played a part. A stretch of 10 multi-hit games in 20 total games is remarkable in its own right.

The 28-year old rookie is a feel-good story, for sure.

Before this season, he’d had just 17 at bats in the majors.

This season, he’s batting .295 with eight homers, 40 RBI, 13 steals and an .843 OPS.

Collins went to Creighton University, and he was a ninth-round pick by the Rockies in 2019. This has all been a long time coming for him.

The comparison to Puig is interesting, and some fans may scoff at that given how quickly Puig fell off.

But when Puig arrived in the majors, he took the league by storm.

Collins is doing it with less fanfare as a non-prospect who is far from Hollywood. But that makes it even cooler.

Almost no one in MLB history has ever had a stretch of play like Isaac Collins, and that’s pretty darn awesome.
