Braves get huge update on Ronald Acuña Jr. injury return

The Atlanta Braves are reportedly getting one of their best players back as superstar Ronald Acuña Jr. is ready to get back on the field.

Acuña tore his ACL last season on May 26 after an awkward movement while running the bases. This came only a couple of years after he tore his other ACL in 2021. After a long recovery, Acuña’s return is reportedly imminent as he is expected to be activated off the injured list Friday, according to Bleacher Report’s Andrew Peters.

“Ronald Acuña Jr. is reportedly expected to make his return soon after nearly a full year off the field,” Peters wrote. “According to multiple reports, the Atlanta Braves star is expected to be activated from the injured list on Friday for the team’s series against the San Diego Padres.”

“Acuña said in February that he was ’90-95 percent’ recovered from the ACL surgery and reached a major milestone earlier this month when he began playing for the Braves’ Florida Complex League team. A few days later, he made his first appearance for Triple-A Gwinnett. Acuña’s return comes at a good time as the Braves look to get things going after a mediocre start to the year.”

Before getting injured last season, in 49 games, Acuña was slashing .250/.351/.716 with four home runs and 15 RBIs. In his last full season in 2023, however, Acuña won the National League Most Valuable Player Award after hitting 41 home runs, with 106 RBIs and a .337 batting average.

Acuña remains one of the best players in the league when healthy, and the Braves could use a boost to their lineup after a 24-24 start to the season. Adding a four-time All-Star to the heart of the order could be just what the Braves need to improve their middle-of-the-pack offense.
