Braves blockbuster trade idea brings NL Central ace to Atlanta

The Braves are 6 1/2 games back of a wild card spot going into play on Wednesday. They need to turn things around quickly if they want to make the postseason.

Alex Anthopoulos noted on 680 The Fan that the Braves will not be sellers and that he wants to be in a position to add at the trade deadline. The team will need to start stacking wins to make that happen. MLB insider Mark Feinsand tabbed Freddy Peralta of the Milwaukee Brewers as a target for the Braves.

“Like the (Tampa Bay) Rays, the Brewers have a history of dealing players as they get closer to free agency (see Josh Hader, Corbin Burnes and Devin Williams), though trading Peralta would be a bold move given that Milwaukee sits only 1 1/2 games out of a Wild Card spot,” wrote Feinsand. “Still, with an $8 million salary in 2025 and an $8 million club option for 2026, Peralta would surely draw interest from teams looking for controllable pitching, which is always a popular target around the Trade Deadline.”

The Brewers were leading the National League Central when they traded Hader. Trading Peralta would be a shocker, but they have a surplus of starting pitchers. They have Brandon Woodruff coming back, Tobias Myers and Logan Henderson in the minor leagues and Nestor Cortes on the injured list.

The Brewers operate with the future in mind, and if they think this is the best time to maximize Peralta’s value, they will not hesitate to make a trade. For the Braves, Peralta is the exact type of player who can help turn their season around.
