Brady Tkachuk injury update: Latest news on USA star’s exit vs. Sweden in 4 Nations Face-Off game

The USA already is without Matthew Tkachuk against Sweden for Monday’s 4 Nations Face-Off. Now, the team will have to finish the game without his brother. ‘

Brady Tkachuk left the game during the first period of the final round robin game. The USA winger ran into the post early in the contest, played a shift, but then went down to the locker room.

The younger Tkachuk brother has been stellar for Mike Sullivan’s team at the NHL international tournament. The Senators captain posted two goals in the USA’s opening win over Finland, and then dropped the mitts with Sam Bennett against Canada in the opening seconds of the game.

Brady Tkachuk injury update

Tkachuk got banged up after he crashed into the post during the first period. The USA forward was driving the net with the puck when he lost his footing and slammed into the iron.

He got up a bit gingerly, but made his way to the USA bench. He played a shift after, but then was seen heading down the tunnel for further evaluation.

After a few minutes, Tkachuk returned to the ice and played a handful of shifts. However, when the team returned from the first intermission, the USA winger was nowhere to be seen on the bench.

He later was ruled out for the rest of the game.

The United States already is playing down a man. Not only is Brady’s brother Matthew out tonight, but Auston Matthews was a late scratch as well due to “upper-body soreness.” As a result, Mike Sullivan only has 11 forwards and six defensemen for the Sweden matchup — and now he will have to work with 10 with Tkachuk out for the rest of the game.
