It’s not very often you hear a player in Major League Baseball do something for the first time ever. That is exactly what happened on Saturday for Bobby Witt and the Kansas City Royals.

The Royals won the game on Saturday, 3-1 over Detroit, with Witt’s two-run home run being the big blow in the game. Witt became the first player to ever hit 20 home runs and steal 30 bases in each of his first four seasons in the league. It’s a rare mix of speed and power, and the fact that he’s done it so consistently to open his career puts him in a category all by himself.

Then on Sunday, as the Royals faced Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers, Kansas City had just four hits in the game. Skubal silenced the bats and reminded the Royals how tough the Tigers’ pitching staff has been all season.
The loss on Sunday dropped the Royals to 70-68 on the season. Detroit continues to run away with the American League Central. The Tigers are now 81-58 with the win, pushing their division lead even further.
Witt is hitting .296 on the season, with 20 bombs, and he is 24 runs batted in away from 100 on the season. Witt also needs 12 runs scored to reach 100 as the team heads into the final month of the season. If he can keep producing at the plate, Kansas City will remain in the Wild Card mix, and his name will stay in the conversation for MVP votes.
