Bo Nix given absurdly low ranking by PFF

Bo Nix did about as good as could have been expected as a rookie for the Denver Broncos last season. After becoming the first rookie to start in Week 1 for the team since 1983, Nix accomplished a lot both individually and in terms of leading the team to a complete turnaround.

He was battling with Jayden Daniels for the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award and according to a recent ranking, plays for one of the 10 most complete rosters in the league.

That would lead one to believe that Nix should be high up on the list of starting quarterbacks in the league. John Kosko of Pro Football Focus doesn’t quite see it that way. While ranking all 32 starting QBs in the league for the coming season, he has Nix at No. 19… that is not a typo.

That puts Nix as a tier 4 guy, describing that group of players as “young and with a wide range of potential outcomes”.

“Nix had a strong rookie season, though it was somewhat overshadowed by Jayden Daniels’ historic campaign. If he can avoid the dreaded sophomore slump, the Broncos could be a serious threat in 2025. After a rocky start, including three sub-50.0 game grades in his first four outings, Nix found his footing, posting an 85.7 overall grade the rest of the way, sixth-best in the league over that span”, wrote Kosko.

It makes sense that some analysts are going to want to see Nix follow up his rookie season with a strong showing, but there are not 18 quarterbacks in the league better than Nix. Tua Tagavailoa, Kyler Murray and Geno Smith are all questionable names who are listed ahead of him.

Fans are always going to be biased towards their guy, but there probably aren’t 10 quarterbacks in the league that Broncos fans would take over Nix right now. The sophomore slump is not a myth, it impacted C.J. Stroud to a certain extent last season. But if Nix needs another strong season to start gaining the respect of the national media, it shouldn’t be put past him to go out and do it.
