So much for any talk of fatigue. Just days removed from that grueling 15-inning thriller that sealed their ALDS victory, the Mariners came out swinging in Game 1 of the ALCS, toppling the Blue Jays 3–1 on Sunday.
Cal Raleigh set the tone with a solo blast, and Jorge Polanco supplied the rest of the offense with a pair of RBIs. On the mound, Seattle’s pitching staff was nearly untouchable, surrendering only a leadoff homer to George Springer before slamming the door shut.
For the Blue Jays, this marks their first appearance in the ALCS since 2016, as they chase their first World Series berth since that glorious 1993 title run. The Mariners, meanwhile, are venturing into rare air, their first trip to this stage since 2001, still in search of an elusive first American League pennant. They remain the lone franchise among MLB’s 30 clubs to have never reached the Fall Classic.
