The Toronto Blue Jays missed on Juan Soto this offseason. They could lose both Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette next offseason. One of their star players could leave Toronto to join the Atlanta Braves.
The Braves were unable to add a premier shortstop this offseason. However, Bichette could fill a need for them next season. The Braves need an upgrade from Orlando Arcia. Bichette signed a three-year, $33 million extension with the Blue Jays in 2023. FanSided’s Steven Teal urged the Braves to make a move for the star next winter.
“This would be an absolute no brainer for the Braves as Bichette would turn 28 before the 2026 season and provide them with an incredible upgrade at shortstop,” wrote Teal. “This would depend on how well 2025 goes for Bichette and if Atlanta feels like there are no internal options suitable to fill the role.”
Arcia had a down season following his 2023 All-Star campaign. Bichette experienced a similar season. He had a down season in 2024, but history shows that it may be an outlier. He was an All-Star in 2021 and 2023. He led the American League in hits in 2021 and 2022. He had a .225 batting average in 2024. Before last season, he had a .299 batting average.
The Blue Jays will have all hands on deck trying to keep Guerrero in Toronto. However, losing one of their stars could mean losing both. Neither guy is going to want to stay if the prospects of winning are slim.
