The Toronto Blue Jays missed the postseason in 2024. As they look to bring in new stars to help their team, they could lose a valuable pitcher to the New York Yankees.
While listing moves the Yankees need to make after losing Juan Soto, Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter predicted that Ryan Yarbrough would leave the Blue Jays to join their division rival.
“Yarbrough has been an effective swingman for the Rays, Royals, Dodgers and Blue Jays over seven seasons in the majors, posting a 4.21 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 768 career innings spanning 68 starts and 128 relief appearances,” wrote Reuter. “The 32-year-old had a 3.19 ERA in 98.2 innings in 2024, and he would be a solid replacement for Nestor Cortes on the staff.”
Yarbrough would bring versatility to the Yankees. He can both start games and be effective as a reliever. He made no starts in 2024 but has 68 career starts. He had a 2.01 ERA after joining the Blue Jays in 2024. In two games against the Yankees last season he allowed just two hits and one run. He also recorded a strikeout.
The Blue Jays have had an aggressive approach this offseason. They were in the mix for Juan Soto and also traded for Andrés Giménez. Losing Yarbrough would not be the biggest loss, but they surely do not want to see the Yankees get better. The Blue Jays will likely look to upgrade their bullpen anyway.
