The pen has been put to paper.
Dylan Cease is officially a member of the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays announced the signing as complete on Tuesday afternoon with a post on social media.
The post confirms what had been reported, that it is a seven-year deal in Toronto.

Reports have also indicated that Cease will be paid $210 million over the life of the contract, which is $30 million per year.
Cease comes to the Blue Jays from the San Diego Padres, where he was one of the top strikeout starting pitchers in baseball.
Toronto wasn’t expected to be big players in the starting pitcher market this offseason. The Blue Jays have a lot of returning arms.
Because of that, the Cease signing feels especially significant. It can pretty much only be viewed as a statement of major intent.

The Blue Jays made it to extra innings in Game 7 of the World Series before falling to the Dodgers. That’s as close as a team can get to championship glory without actually achieving it.
Toronto doesn’t want that heartbreak again. Cease almost surely won’t be the last major signing this offseason.
The Blue Jays are going for it, and Cease’s signature has made the start of that undertaking official.
