George Springer resides in quite the place in MLB history.
Anytime you can be second in a statistic in the history of baseball, you’re probably doing something right.
And that’s where Springer sits in leadoff home runs.
He has the second most leadoff homers in the history of Major League Baseball. Springer hit career leadoff home run number 61 on Wednesday afternoon for the Toronto Blue Jays.
The only player to ever hit more: Rickey Henderson, who had a ridiculous 81.

Springer has been in second for a little while. Alfonso Soriano’s 54 was the second-place number until Springer went by it.
It’s been an overall revival season for Springer in Toronto. Last season, he hit 19 home runs in 145 games. This season, Springer is up to 21 homers in his 106th game of the campaign.
Springer’s success sums up the Blue Jays’ special season that has them currently sitting atop the AL East Division.
There has been very little change in Toronto personnel. Their acquisitions at last year’s trade deadline and in this offseason haven’t been the difference makers.

Instead, guys like Springer, Addison Barger and Alejandro Kirk have simply played a lot better this season.
It’s a hard recipe to replicate, but Toronto just got better.
Springer has always had immense ability, dating to his days as a young Astros prospect out of UConn.
And in the majors, Springer has shown time and again how potent he can be.
It’s cool to see him turn it around this season in Toronto and keep it rolling. He’s definitely someone to fear at the top of a lineup.
