Blue Jays could threaten Yankees in AL East with blockbuster trade for $200M superstar

The Toronto Blue Jays are off to a 12-12 start and are just two games out of first place in the American League East. However, their offense will need a boost if they want to make a postseason push.

The Blue Jays have gotten some great results from their pitching staff. Chris Bassitt has looked great and Jeff Hoffman has been lights out. However, their offense has not met expectations. Specifically, they are not hitting for power. They have the players to be a great slugging team. However, Anthony Santander, Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. have not started their home run binges yet.

Sports Illustrated’s Kenneth Teape noted that third base is the spot in need of the biggest upgrade. Teape suggested the Blue Jays could push to trade for Carlos Correa of the Minnesota Twins.

“In need of offensive upgrades, the Blue Jays should strongly consider looking outside of the organization and making a splash. One player who could help them in multiple ways is Carlos Correa of the Minnesota Twins,” wrote Teape. “The three-time All-Star was listed as a likely trade candidate by Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report and would make a lot of sense for Toronto. He could take over at third base, a move that was going to be made had he ended up signing with the New York Mets before some issues were raised with his physical.”

Correa signed a six-year, $200 million deal in 2023. He has vesting options for 2029-2032 and could be a long-term solution for the Blue Jays. He is off to a slow start this year, but he was an All-Star last season and had a .905 OPS. The Twins are struggling early, and perhaps playing for a team with postseason aspirations could get Correa back in form.

Correa could bring a 20-homer bat to Toronto, while also helping them prepare for the future. Correa would join Guerrero and Santander in Toronto for the near future. He would also be able to take over at shortstop if the team loses Bo Bichette in free agency.

The New York Yankees are also in desperate need of a third baseman. If the Blue Jays added Correa, they could not only threaten the Yankees in the AL East but also make sure the Yankees do not add Correa themselves and set their team up for another World Series run.
